TURK'S HEAD BASKETS © 1995-2005 Charity I. Benz One day while my friends took a short cruise around Nantucket Harbor, I became preoccupied tying a turk's head around a cardboard oyster container. After some experimentation and many feet of rope, I came up with these two baskets. Several coats of varathane seal and protect the knot and provide a soft luster. The larger version makes a nice fruit or bread basket; the smaller one is nice for candy or as a wine caddy. In the old days, baskets like these rested on the hall table back home to collect small mementos from voyages and travels across the seas.

TURK'S HEAD BOTTLE STOPPER Some people tell me that they never need a stopper for the wine bottle because there's never any wine left ... well, just in case, this one would look nice on the captain's table, at sea or at home. It is a three-lead, four bight, tripled turk's head perched on top of a cork. Like the baskets, it is sealed with varathane for protection. It comes boxed and makes a nice hostess gift. TURK'S HEAD COASTERS Rounding out the turk's heads are these coasters made from cotton twine. These are very thick and serve well the purpose of protecting tables against water rings which drive you crazy just thinking about how to get them out! These are quadrupled three-lead, five-bight turk's heads that go right in the washing machine ... drip dry. Four of them come in the set, packaged in a plastic gift box.

THE LAMP COLLECTION © 2000-2005 Charity I. Benz These elegant lamps combine two of sailing’s most notable knots, the turk’s head and French whipping. The medium and large lamps come in a choice of either a white paper shade or an authentic NOAA nautical chart shade. They also have a solid walnut base and a turk’s head finial. The cabin lamp has a clip on shade. The dacron knotwork is protected by three coats of clear, non-yellowing water-based polyurethane. Since I am a chart dealer, I can make custom shades for specific coastal communities. (Call for details.) The Mariner’s lamp has the same knotwork but is made from an antique color cotton twine with either a cream color or chart shade. It has a clear polyurethane finish and a walnut base with matching finial
